"La Gondola" was first mentioned in the 11th century. In the age of the doges, the gondola was the most important transportation method of the Venetians.
Back then, the gondola was colourful and festively decorated and was treated as a sort of status symbol among Venetians.
Today the gondola floats elegantly in shiny black for the tourists, quietly through the romantic little canals.
There are still very few gondola makers, the oldest gondola workshop is found in San Trovaso.
A romantic gondola ride is a MUST for every visitor in Venice.
